Hire Next.js Developers

In short

Hire Next.js developers from ReliaBuilds and you get senior engineers who have shipped App Router products on Vercel with Stripe and a headless CMS, on a fixed quote or a monthly retainer sized to the hours you need. Our team works your hours, demos every week, and the repository is yours from the first commit.

What do you get when you hire Next.js developers from ReliaBuilds?

You get senior Next.js engineers who build with the App Router and React Server Components, deploy on Vercel, wire up Stripe, and connect a headless CMS, all under one accountable team. We are a web development agency, so the same people handle design handoff, backend, hosting and post-launch support rather than a single contractor you manage.

  • App Router and React Server Components. Server rendering, streaming, route handlers and caching, with Lighthouse above 90 on content-heavy pages.
  • Vercel and infrastructure. Preview deployments per branch, image optimization, and AWS or Cloudflare when cost per request matters.
  • Stripe. Subscriptions, one-off payments, Connect payouts and webhook handling.
  • Headless CMS. Sanity, Payload or Strapi so your team edits content without a developer.
  • Auth and data. NextAuth, Clerk or Supabase Auth over PostgreSQL with Prisma.
  • TypeScript throughout, tests on the paths that touch money, documented code.

How much does it cost to hire a Next.js developer?

Next.js developer rates vary widely by region and seniority, and published surveys disagree with each other. Our seniority matches the top of the US market, and we quote a fixed scope after discovery rather than an hourly rate. For market benchmarks by region, read Next.js developer hourly rates.

Engagement How it works How it's priced Fits when
Hourly / ad hoc Tasks billed as they come, no minimum Quoted per task before work starts Bug fixes, small features, audits
Part-time retainer Fixed monthly hours, priority replies, monitoring Monthly retainer sized to the hours you need, quoted as a fixed figure A live product that needs steady care
Full-time dedicated One or more engineers reserved for you, working your hours Monthly, quoted per engineer A startup replacing or extending an in-house team
Fixed-scope project Fixed scope, fixed quote, weekly demos, handover Fixed scope and a fixed quote after a discovery call A defined product with a launch date

Every engagement gets a written quote after discovery, and the number moves only if the scope does. For rates by country and seniority, read how much a Next.js developer costs per hour. For a whole team rather than one role, see dedicated development team.

What have our Next.js developers shipped?

Two products show the range: a paid-membership consumer site and a realtime AI learning app. Both run on Next.js in production and are on our projects page.

  • 5th Row (2025): a members-only cinema club. Next.js with Stripe membership tiers, seat booking and city guides. Payments, entitlements and booking all live in one App Router codebase.
  • Studious Prep (2025): AI IELTS speaking practice with realtime speech scoring and instant band feedback. Next.js on the front, streaming responses from the scoring service behind it.

Ask for the repo walkthrough on the discovery call; we would rather show code than screenshots.

How does the engagement work?

Five steps, with a fixed quote before any code and a working build to look at every week.

  1. Discovery. A call, then a written roadmap, fixed scope and a technical plan naming the stack, integrations and risks.
  2. Fixed quote. You sign off on the scope and the number. Later changes get their own quote.
  3. Weekly demos. A working build on staging every week, not a status report.
  4. Staging and testing. Security review of auth, payments and data access, plus performance benchmarks before launch.
  5. Handover. Repository in your GitHub organization from the first commit, cloud accounts in your name, IP assigned on payment. Most clients keep the same engineers on a monthly retainer sized to the hours they need.

Next.js vs React: which do you need?

You need Next.js if search traffic, page speed or server-side logic matter to the product. You need plain React (usually with Vite) if you are building an internal tool or an embedded widget where none of those apply. Next.js is React with a server attached: routing, rendering, data fetching and an API layer are decided for you.

Need Plain React (Vite) Next.js
Public pages that must rank Weak: client-rendered by default Strong: server rendering and static generation
Dashboard behind a login Fine Fine, with Server Components for data-heavy views
Stripe webhooks, auth callbacks, API routes Separate backend required Route handlers in the same codebase
Image and font optimization Manual Built in
Hosting Any static host Vercel, or Node on AWS and Cloudflare

Most startups need Next.js, because the marketing site, the app and the API end up in one repo with one deploy. A React developer can learn the App Router, but caching, Server Actions and streaming have sharp edges that cost weeks if nobody has hit them before.

Do I need App Router experience, or will Pages Router do?

For a new product in 2026, hire for App Router. It is the default from Next.js 13 onward and the only place new features land. The Pages Router is right for maintaining an app already built on it, but starting there means a migration later.

What App Router experience should look like in practice:

  • Can explain when a component should be a Server Component and when it must be a Client Component.
  • Has handled the fetch cache, revalidateTag and route segment config in production.
  • Has used Server Actions for forms and knows their limits around validation and errors.
  • Can set up streaming with loading.tsx and Suspense boundaries without layout shift.

What questions should I ask a Next.js developer before hiring?

Ask questions only someone who has shipped an App Router product can answer specifically. Vague answers are the signal.

  1. Show me a live Next.js product you built. What was the Lighthouse score, and how did you get it there?
  2. When would you make a component a Client Component, and what happens to bundle size if you get that wrong?
  3. How do you handle Stripe webhooks in Next.js, and how do you make them idempotent?
  4. Where does the fetch cache bite in App Router, and how have you debugged a stale page?
  5. What do you deploy to, and what breaks when you move off Vercel?
  6. How do I get the code, the cloud accounts and the documentation if we part ways?

Our engineers answer all six on the discovery call, with the repositories open.

Questions

How quickly can your Next.js developers start?

Discovery takes a few days from the first call. Retainers and ad-hoc work can start the same week; fixed-scope projects start once you approve the scope, quote and technical plan. A landing site takes 1-2 weeks, a marketing site with a CMS 3-6 weeks, and an MVP 6-12 weeks.

Is Next.js good for SaaS and e-commerce?

Yes for both. SaaS gets server-rendered marketing pages, authenticated dashboards and API routes in one codebase, with Stripe billing and roles. E-commerce gets fast product pages, image optimization and checkout on the same stack. 5th Row runs Stripe memberships and booking on Next.js; Ponnadhar runs a full checkout with local payment gateways.

Can Next.js handle SEO better than a single-page app?

Yes. A single-page app sends an empty shell and renders in the browser, so crawlers and AI engines see less and users wait longer. Next.js renders pages on the server or at build time, ships metadata per route and optimizes images and fonts. Our SEO team works on the same codebase, so technical fixes get shipped.

Who owns the code?

You do. The repository lives in your GitHub organization from the first commit, cloud and third-party accounts are opened in your name, and the contract assigns IP to you on payment. If you leave, you keep the code, the documentation and the deployment configuration.
